Winemaker

Sergio Cuadra was born in Santiago Chile in 1970. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering and Enology from the University of Talca and has more than 15 years of experience in crafting fine wines from the most prestigious winegrowing regions in Chile as well as abroad. Sergio discovered his passion for wine as he worked first as a waiter and later as an apprentice sommelier in major restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area. In Sergio’s words, “Recommending wines to go with a dish was not only a new challenging experience, but great fun as well”.

Commencing his career, Sergio worked with French winemaker Jacques Lurton gaining vast experience in red wine vinification. In 1996, the need to combine his work as winemaker with a good knowledge of vineyard management led him to Fetzer Vineyard in California. There he worked with white wine varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Gewürztraminer from northern California.

In his desire to gain more technical knowledge, Sergio then traveled to the wine regions of France and Germany before returning to Chile. Sergio worked nine years as Chief Winemaker at Viña Concha y Toro’s Chimbarongo facility, responsible from vineyard management to finished products and directly involved in making Concha y Toro’s premium wines. The quality of his work led him to participate in tasting panels with the winemaking team responsible for the Marqués de Casa Concha wine.

Sergio has led numerous tastings with distinguished international wine writers. He has participated in promotional tours, seminars, and conferences as well as educational tastings in the major wine markets.
